  1. I believe the media is doing a good job of getting the message out about the increase in skin cancer diagnosis, as well as the need to apply a minimum SPF 15 sunscreen daily. I feel the public hears this message, but is not listening. Let's face it, applying sunscreen is messy and inconvenient. Unfortunately, it needs to be applied daily, and should be part of our daily routine. Everything I read says that to protect yourself from potential skin cancer, sunscreen must be applied frequently to avoid a sunburn. We need to have a good sunblock, convenient to apply, that we work into our morning routine with little effort. Sunblock that comes in a spray-pump bottle is great for this use. If the bottle is small, and fits in a pocket or purse, even better. Perhaps following this simple practice, we could all avoid skin cancer for ourselves, and reduce the increase of skin cancer diagnosis overall.

  2. I think a big issue is the greasy feel and shiny finish sunscreens leave on the skin. In additon, if you make sunscreen a part of your everyday routine, do you really need it to be waterproof? The ingredients that make susncreen waterproof, introduce that not so pleasant sunscreen smell and if used near or in your hair, it makes washing it away at the end of the day far more difficult. There is no need to introduce one more chemical to your skin, especially on a daily basis. Unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the water throughout the day, waterproof sunscreens are totally unnecessary.

  3. I agree with Anonymous. There is no logical reason to use a waterproof sunscreen for everyday use - - unless you work in the dolphin tank at Bush Gardens! I also agree that waterproof sunscreen is just one more chemical on your skin. Who needs more chemicals, yuck... There is an alternative. Did you know that at www.sundition.com you can also purchase clothing that is certified to block 98% or more of the sun's UVA and UVB rays. I have a couple shirts, and find them to be effective, and fashionable.
